"Tom has spent several decades advocating for low-income South Carolinians. Not only does he manage all the intake for the entire state, but he goes above and beyond his role by acting as co-counsel when needed, covering for managing attorney for the Columbia, South Carolina office and updating South Carolina Legal Services on various changes in state law and LSC polices and priorities. He is also an active member for the Cultural Humility Unit and participate in outreach events consistently. He encourages staff attorneys to think outside the box when advocating for our clients. Despite the lengthy hours that this job entails, he continues to make himself a resource for other organizations and current and potential clients. Tom always volunteers to do outreach throughout the state, mentor attorneys young and older, and be a member of several committees. He is one of the pillars in forming South Carolina Legal Services's Housing Court pilot program for Richland County, South Carolina."
